Guide to Contact Lens Care
- Before handling the lens, always wash your hands with soap and water. Next, dry your hands with a lint-free towel.
- To avoid confusion of right and left contact lens always handle the same lens each time. For example, if one is right-handed remove the right lens first.
- Each time you remove the lenses, clean and disinfect according to your doctor’s instructions.
- If you wear makeup, always apply it after inserting your lenses.
- Remove contact lenses before removing makeup.
- Always read instruction on how to use your contact lens solution.
- Always use contact solution before the expiry date marked on the bottle.
- Always dispose of your lens case every three months. Keep your case clean by rinsing in hot water and letting it air dry.
- Never use tap water to rinse your contact lens.
- Never swim in a public pool or hot tub without the use of goggles. To avoid infection it is best to dispose the contact lens after these activities.
- Never sleep with your contact lens unless advised by your doctor.
- Never put a contact lens on an eye that is “red” or if you are experiencing discharge from the eye.
- Do not substitute contact solutions without the approval of your doctor.
- Always maintain regularly scheduled follow-up appointments with your doctor.
